What's This Course About?

From newscasts and district offices to activism and advocacy, “equity” is a term used often and by many. But in K-12 education, it’s the students who experience inequities every day.

It’s the student of colors who receives harsher punishments for the same action than their white peers.

It’s the multilingual learners who don't see their cultural backgrounds reflected back to them by their teachers or leaders.

It’s the students living in poverty who are also trying to learn in aging school buildings.

For these students, and too many more, inequity is felt rather than just talked about.

In this course, you’ll explore the core principles of a concept designed to help address the barriers these students face: resource equity. You’ll learn how resource equity differs from traditional understandings of equitable education, why it matters in school systems today, and what you can do to advocate for resource equity in your work.

By delving into the research, data, and insights that show how access to critical resources can impact a child’s educational experience, you’ll be one step closer to advancing resource equity in your community.

Addressing resource equity in education is a journey, so let’s take the first step.
